Shopify Announcement Bar: Promos That Don’t Cover the Page
How to use a Shopify announcement bar for shipping, sales, and launches — plus how an auto-updating bar can show your latest blog post when you publish.
A Shopify announcement bar is a slim strip at the top or bottom of the store — not a full-screen popup. It is the right format when the message should stay visible while shoppers keep browsing: free shipping thresholds, sale dates, holiday hours, or a new collection link.
Modals interrupt. Bars remind. Pick the format that matches how heavy the ask is.
When a bar beats a modal on Shopify
Use a bar when:
- The message is one line (or one line plus a short CTA).
- You want the page content to stay readable underneath.
- The update is ongoing — shipping policy, sale window, store hours — not a multi-field email form.
Prefer a modal when you need an email field, a discount code reveal, or a focused “join the list” conversation.

Announcement mode: the text is the link
Not every bar needs a “Visit Now” button.
In Popup Wizard you can hide the button so the bar text itself is the clickable link — useful for “New linen collection just landed” style messages where the whole strip should go to the collection.
You can add a small arrow or chevron after the text so the strip still feels tappable without looking like a second button.
Button vs text link
When you do show a call-to-action:
- Button — classic filled control; best when the action should stand out (“Shop sale”).
- Link — plain text next to the message; best when you want a quieter strip.
Keep copy short either way. A bar is not a paragraph.
How to set up a Shopify announcement bar in Popup Wizard
- 1Install Popup Wizard for Shopify from the App Store.
- 2Create a bar campaign — write a short line yourself, or ask AI for an announcement.
- 3Set the link to a collection, product, or policy page.
- 4You can hide the button so the whole bar text is the clickable link, and add a small arrow or chevron if you like.
- 5Place the bar top or bottom, match colors to your theme header, and choose who should see it (sitewide or specific pages).
- 6Publish, then watch clicks (and dismissals) in your campaign analytics.
You do not need theme code. Frequency capping keeps returning visitors from seeing the same strip on every page load.
Auto-updating announcement bar for your latest blog post
Most Shopify announcement bars use a short message you write for shipping, sales, and launches.
If you publish often — blog posts, articles, or research — the same bar can show your latest blog post: paste your blog or articles page link, click Fetch now, and the bar fills with the latest title and link. When you publish something newer, the bar updates when you publish, so you are not editing it every time.
Use that path when the job is “always promote whatever we published last.” Full walkthrough: auto-updating announcement bars.
Mistakes to avoid
- Packing a full email form into a thin bar.
- Stacking multiple bars at once.
- Leaving last week’s sale copy live after the sale ends.
- Leaving latest-post auto-update on for a one-off promo that should stay fixed.
